Peter Scales

Peter Scales is a Senior Adviser with over 45 years’ experience in local government finance, 35 of these within pensions.

He has built a governance advisory capability with MJ Hudson and has advised both public and private sector pension funds. He now focusses on governance advice in the local government sector, working with three LGPS pension funds. He has also undertaken several ad hoc projects for local authority funds in terms of governance reviews and advice.

Experience

Until December 2006, Peter was Chief Executive of the London Pensions Fund Authority, administering a scheme valued at around £4 billion. This included leading the restructuring of investment strategy, and the introduction of new regulatory requirements for public investment strategy, funding, and governance statements. He has played a number of influencing roles in the UK pensions industry, including the PLSA and the CIPFA Pensions Panel and has helped develop many aspects of guidance on good practice in the administration of LGPS pension funds. He has also been involved in advising private sector pension funds on governance and in seeking to develop good practice on integrating responsible investment and climate change awareness into investment decision making.
