I joined MJ Hudson from HBO’s VICE News, in New York, where I was a documentary film producer, having previously worked at leading US and UK law firms and in house as head of legal for a private equity fund in Hong Kong.
Back in the UK from seven years living abroad, I was looking for a firm that offered a different perspective to the established big city law firms (where I had trained and previously worked).
I was struck by MJ Hudson’s entrepreneurial spirit and ambition to forge a new frontier in the offering and packaging of legal services.
So far, it’s been a fantastic few years. MJ Hudson has attracted lawyers and service professionals from all walks of life, and everyone tends to have done something a bit different to the average city career track. Whether that’s stints working abroad, or having a stellar side hustle, it makes for a dynamic and creative team spirit. Everyone feels energised and invested in growing the firm (much more so than at larger firms where I’ve previously worked), and if you are up for really getting stuck in, there are plenty of initiatives to get involved with.
I love working in the venture capital team, which continues to go from strength to strength and has developed a great profile within the VC landscape, here in the UK. We’re a bunch of top tier lawyers who wanted to do something different and were brave enough to make that leap. Great clients, great colleagues, an entrepreneurial environment – what’s not to like?
